On the road to Gori a crystal clear sky makes quietly beautiful what under a grey sky would appear barren.
“Anyone who could get out got out.” My colleague describes the fate of Rustavi, Georgia, in the immediate aftermath of the collapse of the Soviet Union. Developed intensively as part of Stalin’s accelerated industrialization process, at its peak the city was home to 90 factories. Today, it’s a bleak ghost town.
